One of the
basic problems that is being faced by some of the Windows 8 users is inability to upload a
profile/account image for their system. This seems to be a random problem, for
most of the users this is never an issue while for some it might seem head-scratching.
Especially
if you have got a pirated version of Windows 8 or your Windows is not yet
activated or not genuinely activated, you will definitely face this issue. Whenever
you try uploading a image, the Browse button seems to be disabled. If this is
your case, you probably have come to the right place.
Well... I
bought my laptop last September and for a while I too was disturbed as to why
this issue is and how to fix it. When I searched over internet this seemed to
be a common issue faced by many users. For a while, I tried many ways to do the
same but all in vain. Anyhow, finally I have managed to find out a work around
which works well for me and should work for you too.
Follow
following easy steps and you should be done:
1. Go to the following path on your system.
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures.
a. If you are unable to locate the
path, paste it directly on your Computer address bar.
b. If you still can’t locate the path try
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Default Account Pictures.
2. Once you are at this location you
should see following images
a. User.png
b. User.bmp
c. User-40.png
d. User-200.png
3. Make a back-up of these images on
your system. Ignore all other items that you see at this location.
4. Next, check the properties of all 4
images mentioned above. Usually the size for user.png and user.bmp is 448 x 448
pixels, while the others will be 40 x 40 pixels and 200 x 200 pixels respectively.
5. Now, from your system choose an
image of yours that you want to make as account picture.
6. Open the chosen image in Paint and
adjust the pixels of this image to make 4 copy of the same pixels resolution as
discussed for above images.
7. Once you are done with this, move
the newly formed images to replace the previously stored images.
8. Right click and refresh the folder
and then close the folder.
9. So, that’s all it takes. Now check
for your account picture, you should most probably see it now.
10. Even if you don’t see it, you need
not worry. Just restart your system and you should be able to see them at
place.
